Review transfer suggestions

After you import transactions, Big Picture Money scans for withdrawals and deposits that look like the same transfer between two of your accounts.

Prerequisites​

  • Big Picture Money is unlocked
  • You have imported (or entered) transactions on at least one account
  • At least one suggested pair or unlinked transfer exists

Steps​

  1. Under Transactions in the left navigation, click Transfer review.

  2. Review Suggested links:

    • Each row shows both legs: accounts, dates, payees, amounts, and a short explanation (for example, "dates within 2 days, credit card payment pattern").
    • Click a row to open both transactions in the side panel so you can compare details before deciding.
    • Click Accept to link a pair, Dismiss to hide a bad suggestion, or select several and use bulk actions.

  3. Review Unlinked transfers — transactions that look like transfers but have no matching row yet:

    • Link to transaction… — pick a match manually (when that action is available)
    • Create account — shortcut if the other account is missing (for example, add your car loan)
    • Change category — use the category control on the row if the item is not a transfer (for example an electric bill that was labeled Transfer Out because the bank text said ONLINE PMT)

  4. After you change a category, Big Picture Money may ask whether to recategorize similar transactions that match the same payee pattern — the same prompt used in the transaction register (for paper checks, only same-amount peers; see Categorize a transaction). Confirming updates those rows too and helps future imports learn the correction.

After import​

When an import finishes and suggestions exist, the summary shows how many pairs were found with a link to Transfer review.

Expected result​

  • Each Suggested links row shows dates and payees for both legs so same-amount pairs are distinguishable without opening a register
  • Clicking a suggestion row opens both transactions in the side panel; clicking the same row again leaves the panel open
  • Accept, Dismiss, and the row checkbox do not accidentally open or clear those details (use the panel close control when you are done inspecting)
  • Accepted pairs show Transfer badges on both account registers
  • Dismissed pairs do not reappear as the same suggestion
  • Unlinked items decrease as you add accounts, import more data, link manually, or change category away from Transfer In / Transfer Out
  • Changing category on a false transfer (for example FP&L ONLINE PMT → Utilities) removes it from Unlinked transfers and includes it in spending
  • Credit card payment pairs use Transfer Out · Credit Card Payment on checking and Transfer In on the card
  • Spending totals do not increase when you accept a transfer link

Ask Chat to propose classic transfer actions​
