Change appearance

Choose whether Big Picture Money follows your operating system theme or stays light or dark.

Prerequisites​

Steps​

  1. Open Settings from the left navigation (or Account → Settings in the title bar).
  2. Under General, find Appearance.
  3. Select System, Light, or Dark.
  4. Confirm the app updates immediately — no restart required.

Title bar shortcut​

Use Account → Appearance in the title bar to switch System, Light, or Dark without opening Settings. The change applies immediately and is saved like choosing appearance under General.

Ask Chat to propose appearance​

With AI enabled, you can ask Chat to switch appearance (for example “use dark theme”). Review the preview and click Apply. The assistant never pastes API keys or changes your passphrase. See Using AI Chat and AI assistant.

Expected result​

  • Selecting Dark makes the main app UI use the dark theme right away.
  • Selecting Light makes the main app UI use the light theme right away.
  • Selecting System follows your OS light/dark preference.
  • After you quit and reopen the app, your choice is remembered.
  • The title bar Appearance menu shows which option is currently selected.
  • An appearance change Applied from Chat updates the theme the same way as choosing it in Settings.
