Balance over time
Balance over time shows how each of your accounts moved day by day — cash and investments above the zero line, credit cards and loans below it when you owe money.
Unlike net worth, which charts one household total, this report plots one line per account so you can compare checking, savings, cards, and loans on the same chart.
How balances are signed
Balances come from the same daily snapshots used for net worth history. Each snapshot stores the account’s preferred balance at capture time (bank balance when available, otherwise the register ledger). Accounts with Track balance off are not included.
| Account type | On the chart |
|---|---|
| Checking, savings, investment, cash, other | Positive — above zero when you have a balance |
| Credit card, loan | Negative — below zero when you owe money (owing $10,000 appears as −$10,000) |
See Account types for definitions.
Filters
- Date range — defaults to Last 3 months; choose another preset or a custom From and To to zoom in or out (same presets as Spending)
- Accounts — choose which accounts appear; leave empty to show all active accounts
You can save the report type, date range preset, and account selection as a named report from Reports. Reopening a named preset recalculates the date range from today.
Privacy and local-first
Account balances and snapshots stay on your device in your encrypted data file. Nothing is sent to a cloud service for this chart.
